Recycling

Symmes Township no longer participates in Rumpke's Drop-Off Recycling Program.  The Township negotiated with Rumpke to provide Symmes Township's residents with a lower rate for waste collection and it includes free curbside recycling.  Below is a list of what can and cannot be recycled curbside:

What's recyclable

  • paper/newspaper
  • magazines/catalogues
  • paper cartons: milk, juice & soup
  • carboard boxes
  • clean pizza boxes
  • junk mail
  • paperboard boxes (like cereal)
  • plastic bottles & jugs (lids okay if left on)
  • steel food cans
  • aluminum cans
  • glass bottles & jars

What's not recyclable

  • plastic bags (take back to grocery, if clean & dry)
  • any plastic that is not a bottle or jug (for example yogurt containers)
  • Styrofoam
  • light bulbs (CFLs can be taken to Home Depot or Lowes)
  • tires
  • empty motor oil containers
  • hazardous waste such as chemicals, pesticides, herbicides
  • small electronics (talk to E-waste recycler)
  • metal that is not a can
  • aluminum foil/pans
  • glass that is not a bottle or jar

The Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District has a Reuse and Recycling Outlets page on their website for various materials here.
