The Township negotiated with Rumpke to provide Symmes Township's residents with a lower rate for waste collection and it includes free curbside recycling. If you do not have recycling with Rumpke, please call 800-828-8171. The Township also offers drop off recycling at the Township Administration building located at 9323 Union Cemetery Road.
Below is a list of items that can and cannot be recycled:
What's recyclable
- plastic tubs: butter tubs, yogurt & sour cream containers and fruit cups
- disposable paper, plastic & aluminum cups (remove any straws or stoppers)
- paper/newspaper
- magazines/catalogues
- paper cartons: milk, juice & soup
- carboard boxes
- clean pizza boxes
- junk mail
- paperboard boxes (like cereal)
- plastic bottles & jugs (lids okay if left on)
- steel food cans
- aluminum cans
- glass bottles & jars
What's not recyclable
- plastic bags (take back to grocery, if clean & dry)
- any plastic that is not a bottle or jug
- Styrofoam
- light bulbs (CFLs can be taken to Home Depot or Lowes)
- tires
- empty motor oil containers
- hazardous waste such as chemicals, pesticides, herbicides
- small electronics (talk to E-waste recycler)
- metal that is not a can
- aluminum foil/pans
- glass that is not a bottle or jar
