Township Offers Paper Recycling
Symmes Township has taken a big step to help protect our environemnt--recycling! The Township participates in the Abitibi Paper Retriever Program, which is a simple and free service for communities to use for paper reycling. A distinctive green and yellow Abitibi Paper Retriever bin has been provided to us to use as a convenient drop off site. This has been placed in the back of the Township parking lot. Community members can stop by anytime 24/7 and place their paper in the bin. The Township is not charged for the use of the bin or the pick-up of the paper. In fact, we receive payment based on the amount of tonnage received!

Why recycle your paper? |
- Every day Americans buy 62 million newspapers and throw away about 44 million of them. That means that nearly 500,000 trees are dumped into landfills every week.
- Over 17 trees must be cut down to produce one ton of paper.
- Every day over 200,000 tons of wastepaper are generated in the U.S.
- Every ton of recycled paper requires 7,000 fewer gallons of water than making paper from raw materials; keeps almost 60 pounds of air pollutants out; saves 462 gallons of oil; and saves more than three cubic yards of landfill space.
