Master Plan Issues

Below is a summary of the issues that were identified at the Master Plan Public Hearing on May 2, 2007:

1. Growth that has occurred and the impacts
2. Montgomery Road
3. Need to attract businesses that will come into the Township and stay
4. Lacking sidewalks; many areas of the Township are not pedestrian friendly and this keeps people away from amenities
5. Like the locational aspect of the Township
6. Maintain good schools
7. This is a safe community - Sheriff
8. Joint Loveland-Symmes Fire Department, definitely an amenity
9. No earnings tax - Township cannot have now
10. Threat of annexation
11. Parks--maintain a diversity of natural areas, improved plan area, open areas for variety of games
12. Little Miami River - capitalize this asset
13. The Service Department does a lot for the broader Township but not always for individual residents (e.g. tree/limb pick up)
14. Need clean up days
15. Need a recreation center
16. Keep taxes low
17. Keep providing the good services that are now for the lowest cost
18. Tone down signage
19. Build an image/brand for Symmes
20. Cooperation with our neighboring communities
21. Fields Ertel - improving the overall area
22. Loveland-Madeira commercial area is struggling more than others
23. Too many empty storefronts - fill up before building new
24. Property maintenance
25. Need more upscale stores
26. Encourage the creation of a town center feel
27. Create a streetscape in the commercial areas
28. Less commercial areas
29. Encourage/require changes in how new development/redevelopment occurs - closer to street - more connectivity - more greenery
30. Encourage public transportation
31. Consider long term transit options - light rail
32. Encourage mixed use - especially for redevelopment
33. Use the plan to give developers and decision makers a view of what buildings and development should look like
34. Car lots (they are currently in Deerfield Township)
35. Cemeteries - expand and/or improve
36. Prioritize areas of traffic improvement by location and the amount the Township would contribute
37. Inventory vacant or underutilized properties
38. Need a new Township administration building
39. Stress communications
40. Involve our internal communities (e.g. Camp Dennison)
